Community planting takes the total trees planted to 6000
After a karakia and briefing the group that arrived for each of the planting days wasted no time getting to work planting. Quite a few ute loads later a fair bit of ground had been covered. Edwartd Ashby had the following to say - ‘Today was absolutely productive with great results. Let me please start with first thanking all who gave their time to come out and plant Saturday and today. We have done a fair strip and covered a large area. (from the new DOC track (including the carpark area) to 2 to 300mtrs short of the old DOC track) GREAT EFFORT!!. Where we have stopped planting today, just happens to be a wet area and we think more planting could survive through the summer’.
A total of 3000 trees were planted overt the period of two days by the community takign the total of 6000 trees planted so far this year. Earle indicated the distance to the old track is only about 300 metres away and, because it is part of a wetland more plants can still be planted.
